I practice and teach Tae Kwon Do at DMW Martial Arts, a school near my house, in Snoqualmie, Washington. I am a part-time instructor with DMW Martial Arts. Every week I teach a class in Leadership skills, assist in the Black Belt Club classes, and periodically cover classes on weekends or when the school owners take time off. The teaching is as instructive to me as it is to the kids and adults I teach.
I started practicing martial arts as a child studying Judo for a couple of years, but stopped when my parents, divorced years before, were unable to continue driving me to classes. Into adulthood, I still missed martial arts classes and it always stuck with me, a yearning in the back of my mind. Karen, my wife, eventually signed me up for classes after we started taking Kaitlin, our daughter to DMW Martial Arts in January 2004. I quickly discovered I really do have a passion for the arts.
Now, with my black belt, regular practice and a desire to teach, I find I enjoy expanding my skills and sharing with others what I learn. I have reached a place where I have a foundation to work from and an openness to step away from what I know to expand my abilities. It is a good place to be.
